Two new secured winners at the 10th Kalterersee Half Marathon

Georg Brunner (Pustertal Running Club) took the lead immediately after the start. “In order to have a chance of winning the day, I had to gain a lead over Hannes Rungger before the climb on the other side of the lake. From the turnaround in the second lap I no longer saw it, and I also had a bit of a lead over the second-placed guy (Khalid Jbari, Athletic Club 96), so I was able to lose some speed,” said Brunner. For him, the Kalterer See Half Marathon with his winning time of 1:11:00 hours was optimal preparation for the Hamburg Marathon in four weeks. Khalid Jbari wasn't entirely happy with his time of 1:11:35, but he was happy about second place. Günther Mair completed the men's podium with a time of 1:12:35. The winner of the last three editions, Hannes Rungger, had to give up at kilometer 9 with stomach problems.

New course record in the women's run In the women's race, the German Karin Freitag (LG Decker Itter) prevailed with a great start-to-finish victory and a new course record in 1:17:04 ahead of Susanne Mair (Tyrolean Athletics Club, 1:18:25). The extremely satisfied local hero Petra Pircher (ASV Rennerclub Vinschgau) came third with a time of 1:24:20.

Triathlete Matthias Steinwandter wins panoramic run In addition to the half marathon race, there was also a panoramic run. The athletes only had to complete one lap around Lake Kaltern (10,55 kilometers). For triathlete Matthias Steinwandter (ASV Sterzing Volksbank), the panoramic run was a perfect end to his two-week training camp with a view to the European Triathlon Cup. His victory of the day with 33:40 minutes was never in danger. In the women's race, Anisleide Cordero Garcia (Atletica Alto Garda) won in 40:47.

There was also a handbike race with a total of five starters as part of the anniversary edition of the 10th Lake Kaltern Half Marathon. The winners here are Roland Ruepp in 21:23 and Svetlana Moshkovich in 22:48.

A total of 1015 athletes crossed the finish line, which is why the organizing South Tyrolean running club led by President Patrick Olivetto only narrowly missed the participant record of 1043 set last year. The Top7 running series, which includes the Kalterersee half marathon, will continue on April 26th with the Merano – Lagundo half marathon.

Two new secured winners at the 10th Kalterersee Half Marathon

On Sunday the anniversary edition of the Kalterersee Half Marathon took place in Überetsch. With perfect weather and conditions, Georg Brunner and Karin Freitag secured victory. In total, more than 1.000 runners took part.
