Rast wins at the Nürburgring

Last year's champion Rene Rast clinched his second win of the season in the DTM at the Nürburgring. The Audi driver drove a confident race from pole position, but ran into trouble again in the final phase. Bruno Spengler (Canada) in the BMW came second. Third place went to the Englishman Gary Paffett (Mercedes), who took over the lead in the overall standings from his brand colleague Paul Di Resta (Scotland). "The clear goal was to get as many points as possible in every race. But it's disappointing to only finish third when you start from the front row. BMW is strong here, I'm now looking forward to a good race on Sunday," Paffett said. Rast dominated the race for almost the entire duration. The Mindener took advantage of his pole position at the start and entered the first corner as the leader. As a result, Rast gradually separated himself from Paffett and Spengler. The Canadian, for his part, made up more and more ground on Paffett and overtook the 2005 champion around the middle of the race. In the final phase, Spengler quickly caught up with Rast, but was no longer able to launch an attack. The previous overall leader Paul Di Resta had a bad day. At first he was stuck in seventh place, then on the twelfth lap after an overtaking maneuver against Philipp Eng (BMW) he was shot down when the Austrian counterattacked. Di Resta was able to continue, but fell back to last place. Eng received a drive-through penalty. In the overall standings, Di Resta is now eight points behind Paffett in second place.
