Defending champion Rast takes Audi’s first DTM win of the season

Zandvoort (SID) Defending champion Rene Rast (Minden) ended Audi's dry spell in the DTM and gave the Ingolstadt team their first win of the season. The 31-year-old won the tenth race in Zandvoort, Netherlands on Sunday ahead of the two Mercedes drivers Gary Paffett (Great Britain) and Paul Di Resta (Scotland). Philipp Eng (Austria) followed in fourth place as the best-placed BMW driver. "It's a relief, I've had a lot of bad luck in the last few weeks," said Rast: "This time was character-building, very hard." Paffett remains at the top of the overall standings. The Brit, who won Saturday's race and took pole position twice, now has 148 points to his name. He leads ahead of Di Resta (121) and BMW driver Timo Glock (Wersau/101). "It was a great weekend, I could hardly have dared to dream it," said Paffett: "The first half of the season went perfectly, I'm happy with everything. The car, my performance, the team." Rast no longer has a realistic chance of winning the title. However, it was a great relief for Audi, as the brand had only been lagging behind so far this season. By Sunday's race, Mercedes (six) and BMW (three) had shared the victories between themselves.
