Wittmann wins in the rain in Assen

The BMW driver won the 9th race of the season ahead of the two title contenders Nico Müller (SUI) and Rene Rast (GER) in the Audi. At the halfway point of the season, Wittmann (100 points) is 45 points behind the leader Rast. “The perfect yield! It's a great feeling. “Especially after the home race at the Norisring, where we did poorly,” said Wittmann, who had major problems on the street circuit in Nuremberg two weeks ago. Because of the heavy rain, the race started behind the safety car. With poor visibility and difficult conditions, Wittmann and Rast immediately set themselves apart from the competition. Drivers repeatedly slipped off the track, and after Spaniard Daniel Juncadella's Aston Martin broke down due to a defect, the safety car had to go out again. In contrast to all the other drivers, Müller, who is now 24 points behind Rast in the overall standings, opted for a late pit stop. Shortly before the end, this pushed him to the top - but because Müller's tires were not yet up to temperature, he couldn't defend himself against Wittmann's attacks for long and had to let the BMW driver go. However, he successfully defended himself against Rast until the end. The DTM is stopping in Assen for the first time; the route is specially designed for motorcycles. The 13.30th of a total of 10 races of the season is on the program on Sunday (18:XNUMX p.m.).
