525 days later: The great redemption of Günther Steiner

Practically nothing worked for the Haas Formula 1 team for two years. While the US racing team only collected 2020 points in 3, last year there was not a single point in the entire season. Even back then, team boss Günther Steiner never tired of emphasizing that all capital was being invested in the development of the 2022 car. That apparently paid off, because in the first race in Bahrain, Kevin Magnussen finished fifth and scored 10 championship points.

Haas has already scored more points this year than in the last two years combined. Of course, Magnussen also benefited from the retirement of the two Red Bull drivers at the end of the race, but the Dane would have clearly been in the points anyway. Now Steiner & Co. are celebrating their first point win in 525 days. Incidentally, the Frenchman Romain Grosjean scored the last two Haas points in ninth place at the Nürburgring in the fall of 2021. If you look at the entire development surrounding the Haas team in the last few weeks, the story becomes even more special.

Shortly before the start of the season, Haas broke with its Russian title sponsor Uralkali because of the war in Ukraine and also kicked out driver Nikita Masepin. A good 10 days ago, Steiner installed an old acquaintance, Kevin Magnussen (he was at Haas from 2017-2020), as Masepin's successor. The 29-year-old practically came out of Formula 1 retirement and took 5th place in the first race with the new cars. Also thanks to the powerful Ferrari engine (Haas drives with the Scuderia drive) the Meran team boss' team seems to be in favor to be there a lot this year. This was also proven by Magnussen's teammate Mick Schumacher's 11th place.
