Albon will also be in the Red Bull cockpit in 2020

Red Bull will continue to rely on Alexander Albon as the second driver alongside Max Verstappen next year. The racing team announced this on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Thai replaced Frenchman Pierre Gasly at Red Bull at the Belgian Grand Prix and has impressed ever since. Nico Hülkenberg's Formula 1 farewell is now as good as sealed.

Gasly (23) will remain in Formula 1 with the Red Bull farm team Toro Rosso, to which he was recalled after a disappointing first half of the season. As in the current season, the Russian Daniil Kvyat will occupy the second Toro Rosso cockpit.

“Alex did an extremely good job. He finished in the top six in seven starts for Red Bull - that speaks for itself," said team boss Christian Horner: "Alex has proven that he deserves the place at Red Bull. He still has a lot of potential, we look forward to seeing him alongside Max in 2020.” Albon said he was “happy” about the opportunity he was given: “I have to thank you for the trust.”

The driver planning in the premier class has now largely been completed. Only the traditionally troubled Williams team has not yet decided on a second driver alongside George Russell (England). Hülkenberg (Emmerich), whose contract with Renault is expiring, had ruled out getting involved with Williams himself.
