The Scuderia poached the 54-year-old Frenchman from the partner team Alfa Romeo and wants to end the titleless period with him. Vasseur was quoted as saying in a statement that he was “delighted and honored” to get what is probably the most difficult job in Formula 1. He succeeds Mattia Binotto, who has to leave Ferrari after four unsuccessful years at the helm.

The royal personality among the team bosses has now been clarified. But the interplay continues. It was only on Monday that Williams somewhat surprisingly announced the withdrawal of the German Jost Capito (64) as race director. His successor is open.

McLaren team boss to Alfa Vasseur's job will now be taken over by McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl. The 46-year-old from Passau has led the British racing team since 2019 and has brought McLaren back to the top of Formula 1. However, taking on Vasseur's previous role could be attractive for Seidl, as the Sauber team, currently operating as Alfa Romeo, offers exciting prospects.

Ultimately, Audi joins the Swiss Sauber racing team, and for the 2026 season, Sauber will compete in the premier class as an Audi factory team. The Volkswagen subsidiary's motorsport center at the Neuburg an der Donau location is significantly closer to Seidl's hometown than the McLaren factory in Woking, England. Seidl also has a VW past as a former Porsche racing director.

There is already a successor for Seidl at McLaren: the team will be led by the Italian Andrea Stella with immediate effect.

Change of strategy at Ferrari Vasseur is signed at Ferrari a change of strategy. After the farewell to Jean Todt, who together with Michael Schumacher was responsible for the Scuderia's most successful Formula 1 era, all team bosses came from within the company. Stefano Domenicali, Marco Mattiaci, Maurizio Arrivabene and most recently Binotto were promoted from their own ranks. But Ferrari has been waiting for another driver's title since Kimi Räikkönen's World Cup triumph in 2007, back then under Todt's direction.

Vasseur should now change that. Vasseur promised that he wanted to “deliver for our Tifosi all over the world.” The Frenchman is scheduled to take office as the 9th man. He had been team boss at Sauber since mid-2017. He had previously been racing director at Renault.

Vasseur has been involved in motorsport for more than 25 years and has already made a name for himself as a promoter of young talent. As ART team boss, he also set the current Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc on the path to Formula 1. “He believed in me and we always had a good relationship,” Leclerc said recently. In 2018, the Monegasse drove his first full Formula 1 season at Sauber under Vasseur.

In the last World Cup year, Leclerc came second behind Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. The 25-year-old was 46 points ahead of the Dutchman after three races. However, driving errors, strategy misfires and technical damage cost us an even better result. Because of another failure, team boss Binotto has to leave. Now Vasseur should take care of it.
