The new Formula 1 Mercedes is silver again. The W13 from the German factory racing team was presented at Silverstone on Friday. “We have no idea how it will drive,” said superstar Lewis Hamilton at the presentation of the completely new model. “It feels a bit like my first year,” he explained. Due to comprehensive rule changes, the cars for the coming season will be based on completely new concepts. Mercedes said the steering wheel was the only element that was adopted from its predecessor.

“We’re starting from scratch again,” emphasized team boss Toto Wolff. “Eight titles, but past successes don’t guarantee anything,” he said, referring to the recent series triumphs in the constructors’ championship. The Silver Arrow was last painted black. In a dramatic finale last year, Hamilton missed out on his eighth drivers' title in December 2021.

Now he wants to attack world champion Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. “I have never seen him more determined,” said Wolff. Compatriot George Russell, who was brought in by Williams to replace Valtteri Bottas, will drive alongside Hamilton.
