The certificate of maturity: Ferrari's magnificent night in Singapore

SEBASTIAN VETTEL: Something was always stuck with Sebastian Vettel lately. Either the car wasn't competitive, or the Ferrari driver made a mistake and ruined his own race, or the timing, which is so important in Formula 1, wasn't right. But on Sunday in Singapore everything was right. Vettel needed a victory - for himself, but not least for the public. He fought flawlessly and concentratedly for this. And he promptly had the luck of the brave again when he literally passed everyone in the box. Even if it was almost a bit embarrassing for those responsible for Ferrari: Vettel's victory before Charles Leclerc was visibly annoyed was not an “accident” – even if with a different strategy it would probably have worked out in favor of the Monegasque.

CHARLES LECLERC: The future certainly belongs to the young Ferrari star. At the latest when the Hamilton/Vettel generation leaves, Leclerc and Red Bull ace Max Verstappen could fight the World Cup between themselves for years to come. But the 21-year-old is a bit too ambitious in some areas. His anger at losing first place in the race is understandable, but complaining massively against his own strategists and wanting to jeopardize the team's success out of emotion shows that Leclerc is still missing something crucial to a great racing driver: maturity .

LEWIS HAMILTON: It's a bit underwhelming, but Lewis Hamilton is well on his way to his sixth world championship. Mercedes and therefore also the Briton have been winless for three races, but given his convincing and almost flawless performances up to the summer break, that hardly plays a role in the title fight. The 34-year-old is hardly a threat anymore, at least this year. The fact that everyone only talks about Ferrari is a shame for this exceptional driver.

VALTTERI BOTTAS: If further proof was needed of Valtteri Bottas' importance at Mercedes, then the race in Singapore was pretty telling. The Finn, who was second in the World Championship, was asked by the Mercedes strategists to drive more slowly so that his teammate and World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton could return from the pits to the track ahead of him. In plain language: When the going gets tough, Mercedes relies on Hamilton.
