MAX STAGES: On the way to the 6th victory of his Formula 1 career, Max Verstappen was once again a little squeamish. The aim was to eliminate the assembled celebrities of the premier class, and the Dutchman did this with a mixture of toughness and calculation. The last maneuver against Charles Leclerc was at the limit of what was permissible, but the race management showed good instinct and did not steal its winner from Formula 1 this time - unlike three weeks ago in Canada, when Sebastian Vettel was the victim. In any case, Verstappen shows pretty good timing when it comes to his victories, which are still quite rare: last year he also won his Red Bull team's home Grand Prix in Spielberg.

SEBASTIAN VETTEL: What else is happening in this strange year? 2019 is a thankless one for Vettel because his Ferrari is clearly not a car with which you can win the World Cup against Mercedes. But what happens on the few routes that are close to the SF90 now borders on slapstick. Bahrain: Vettel spins early and throws away the chance to win. Canada: Vettel crosses the finish line first, but a controversial five-second penalty deprives him of success. And now Austria: In qualifying, a defect forced him to do nothing, which resulted in him starting from ninth place. During the race, Vettel comes into the pits to change tires - and the mechanics don't yet have the new tires ready. However, Vettel's crisis is also a Ferrari crisis.

CHARLES LECLERC: Because Charles Leclerc also remains without a win this season. The Monegasque actually did everything right; he deserved this victory just as much as Max Verstappen. Leclerc dominated the training sessions, confidently took pole position and led the race just as confidently for a long time. In the second half of the race, however, his tires deteriorated rapidly, Leclerc's car was a blunt weapon and he could no longer fend off Verstappen's wild attacks. Spielberg would have been Ferrari's big chance, the long straights suit the car, which has its weakness on winding roads. And the question slowly arises as to where Ferrari even wants to win this year.

MERCEDES: Eight wins from eight races, but suddenly no chance in Spielberg! Was that it with Mercedes dominance? A pretty clear no. It was clear beforehand that Mercedes was not the big favorite on the straight course in Styria; the car was designed too much for cornering speed. The Mercedes W10 will remain the best all-rounder in the field in the future, and this should become quite clear at the upcoming race in Silverstone. FORMULA 1: What a day for Formula 1. The premier class of motorsport showed quite impressively in Spielberg what exciting sport it can offer. And immediately after the race she showed just as impressively how difficult she makes life for herself. It wasn't until three and a half hours after the checkered flag that it became clear that the winner was Max Verstappen. The trophies had already been handed out, the champagne was splashed, the fans had left the track and the TV broadcasts had long since ended. Compliance with the rules is important, but the analysis of a single overtaking maneuver must not take longer than the race itself. The sport must also think about its attractiveness for the spectator.
