The bomb explodes in Mugello: Vettel has a new racing team

Shortly before the Tuscan Grand Prix, speculation about Sebastian Vettel's future is history. The 33-year-old will take over the cockpit from Sergio Perez in the future. The Mexican announced his departure at the end of the year on Wednesday evening. Perez's farewell paves the way “It’s a new adventure for me with a truly legendary car manufacturer,” said Vettel on Thursday. Rumors about an affair with the Silverstone team had recently been persistent in the Formula 1 environment. They were further fueled when Perez announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving the racing team after seven years. However, it has long been assumed that Perez would have to leave to make room for a big-name driver from 2021: namely Vettel. “I can’t imagine a better driver who could help us on the way into this new era,” said Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer.

The last few months at Ferrari have been a complete disappointment for Vettel. With Aston Martin, the German could fight for the top spots again next year. Most recently, Lance Stroll (he is the son of racing team owner Lawrence Stroll) came third in Monza - so the car seems to be competitive.
