The most important regulation changes in 2019

AERODYNAMICS: The front wings are now 2 meters wide (2018: 1,80 m), the rear wings are 1,05 m (previously 95 cm). The structure is also simplified. For example, the front wings can only consist of five elements (previously unlimited). The changes are intended to reduce air turbulence (dirty air). When overtaking, the upper wing profile, which is folded up when the DRS is activated, is enlarged from 6,5 to 8,5 cm.

EXTRA POINT: In the future, the fastest race lap will be rewarded with an extra point in the drivers' and constructors' championships. However, the prerequisite is that you finish in the points, i.e. among the top ten.

FUEL: The maximum amount of fuel available in the race will be increased from 105 to 110 kg. This should mean more action, especially towards the end of the race.

WEIGHT: The pilots now have to weigh 80 kg including equipment and seats. If it is less, the corresponding weight is added to the driver's seat. This should put an end to unhealthy diet programs. At the same time, the minimum weight of the vehicles including driver increases to 740 kg (2018: 733 kg).

SECURITY: Biometric gloves are intended to provide live information about the pulse rate or the oxygen level in the blood. The shell of the racing helmets has also been strengthened and the visors are smaller and more resistant.

TIRES: It becomes clearer. In 2019 there are only three different labels for the five tire compounds: white for the hardest compound on a weekend, yellow for the medium and red for the softest. The individual tire compounds are graded from C1 (Hard) to C5 (Hypersoft) and are based on the tires from 2018.

PUNISHMENTS: If several drivers are moved to the back of the starting grid due to penalties, the result of the qualifying will henceforth decide the order.

RACE END: The official end of a race is no longer marked by the checkered flag, but rather a digital display on the start-finish straight. The trigger was the flag mistake in Montreal in 2018, when a lap was mistakenly waved off too early. The black and white checkered flag continues to be waved, but it only has emotional value.
