Cologne (SID) Every beginning is difficult: four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel made a mixed debut in eSports. The 32-year-old finished 15th and 12th in two Legends Trophy races at the weekend. Traditionalist Vettel, who is always skeptical about virtual activities, at least remained true to himself in a certain way with his choice of event. In the racing simulation rFactor2, the drivers competed against each other in the Brabham BT44, a Formula 1 car from 1974. Vettel's opponents included the former world champions Emerson Fittipaldi (73) and Jenson Button (40). Just a few weeks ago, the Heppenheimer was not very enthusiastic about the eSports activities of some colleagues during the Corona-related Formula 1 break. His Ferrari team rival Charles Leclerc recently won two VirtualGPs, the official replacement races of Formula 1. The fourth race is on the program here on Sunday evening, the event in the console game F1 2019 starts at 19.00 p.m. and will be broadcast on social media as well as on RTL.de, ntv.de and sport.de. Sky is showing the race live on TV. Formula 3 driver David Schumacher, son of six-time Grand Prix winner Ralf Schumacher, will also be there for the first time. Vettel himself is “not aiming for a virtual career,” he says. However, his friends have recently put pressure on him, and the organizer of the Legends Trophy also equipped him with a simulator. He “didn’t have much practice on this yet, and I don’t want to embarrass myself,” said Vettel in mid-April. At the first appearance there was still room for improvement.
