Emotional minute of silence for Lauda before the Monaco race

The Mercedes team is paying tribute to Lauda, who will be buried next Wednesday in his birthplace Vienna, with a halo completely dipped in red on both racing cars. The cockpit protection of the Mercedes car is usually silver. World champion Lewis Hamilton wore a red helmet with the name “Niki Lauda”. All Mercedes team members wear a mourning ribbon on their left arm. In addition, the words “Thank you Niki” adorn the noses of the two Silver Arrows in Monte Carlo, and above them you can see Lauda’s autograph in red letters. Furthermore, one of the usually silver stars on the engine cover shines in red. This homage should be permanent to underline Lauda's influence on the world champion team of the past five years, explained Mercedes Motorsport Director Toto Wolff.

Numerous other teams, including Ferrari, paid homage to Lauda at the Glamor Grand Prix with messages on the racing cars. The four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel (Germany/Ferrari) also wore a helmet in Lauda's design from the late 1970s in Monaco.
