F1 team boss quits

The Italian team announced this on Wednesday. The 67-year-old North Tyrolean, team boss of the Red Bull sister team AlphaTauri (until 2006 Toro Rosso) since 2020, will be replaced in the coming season by Laurent Mekies, currently sporting director at Ferrari. However, Tost will continue to be available to the racing team in an advisory role in 2024.

“I would like to thank Dietrich Mateschitz for giving me the incredible opportunity to be team boss of Scuderia Toro Rosso and Scuderia AlphaTauri for the past 18 years,” Tost was quoted as saying in a statement. “It has been a real privilege to lead the team for such a long period of time and a great pleasure to work with so many motivated and capable people who share my passion for Formula 1.”

Oliver Mintzlaff, managing director responsible for sports at Red Bull, had words of praise for Tost. “His leadership has led to outstanding victories and the development of some of the greatest talents ever in Formula 1,” said the German. Under Tost, the team achieved two race victories in Monza (2008 and 2020), and he also promoted promising talents such as Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, Carlos Sainz, Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo.

Peter Bayer will be the CEO of AlphaTauri in the future; the Austrian was most recently Secretary General of Sport at the FIA world association for five years.

F1 team boss quits

The Austrian Franz Tost will step down as team boss of the Formula 1 racing team AlphaTauri at the end of the season.
