In the third free practice session on Saturday afternoon, his teammate Charles Leclerc (Monaco) also set the fastest lap in 1:12,380 minutes; Vettel ended up in third place, more than two and a half tenths of a second behind. The German had to admit defeat to Max Verstappen (Netherlands) in the Red Bull.

Mercedes, on the other hand, had difficulty finding its pace - although the previous day's heat, which was problematic for the Silver Arrows, gave way to milder temperatures. Valtteri Bottas (Finland) finished fourth as the best Mercedes, around half a second behind Leclerc. World champion and World Cup leader Lewis Hamilton (Great Britain) only finished sixth.

At around 26 degrees, the temperature was probably no longer a problem for Mercedes. On Friday the thermometer had climbed to 38 degrees, and from around 32 degrees, Mercedes says it has problems with the cooling. During the qualifying dress rehearsal on Saturday, the world champion team made modifications to the side pods; an improvement is necessary before the battle for pole position (15.00 p.m.) in the afternoon.

Hamilton is clearly at the top of the World Cup rankings. Vettel, who is still waiting for his first win of the season, is already 100 points behind in fourth place overall.
