Formula 1 qualifying stopped after terrible accident

The McLaren driver lost control of his car on a rain-soaked track on Saturday and crashed into the barrier after the legendary Eau Rouge curve. His car was badly damaged in Spa-Francorchamps. At first glance, the 21-year-old got out of his car uninjured and was later examined at the route hospital. Norris previously showed a strong performance and even had a chance of taking pole position for the race on Sunday (15.00 p.m.).

“Sorry, guys. “That was my mistake,” Norris radioed to the pits shortly after the crash. A few moments earlier he had noticed that there was aquaplaning on the slope. Nevertheless, Norris took full risks in the third section of qualifying and wanted to set a fast lap. Former world champion Sebastian Vettel thought this was impossible and told his Aston Martin team that a normal drive was not possible. The German called for the red flag on the radio, which would have resulted in an interruption of the unit. Vettel is furious But the race management apparently considered the conditions manageable and did not intervene. “What the hell did I say?” What did I say? Red flag!”, Vettel radioed to his team after he found out about the accident and added: “That was unnecessary.” Since the four-time world champion himself was on the track, he stopped briefly next to Norris’ demolished car and inquired concerned about the youngster's well-being. Shortly afterwards he drove on.

“That scared me and reminds us of what happened here two years ago,” said Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver recalled the fatal accident of his friend Anthoine Hubert, who died in an accident in the Formula 2019 junior series at the end of August 2 in almost the same place. At that time, however, it was a serious collision.
