Formula 1 wants to become clean: climate neutral from 2030

The initiative affects the cars on the track as well as the remaining sports activities. The plan was developed over the past twelve months with the world association FIA, the teams and promoters as well as sustainability experts.

“With its first sustainability strategy, Formula 1 recognizes the important role that organizations like ours must play in tackling this global problem,” said Formula 1 boss Chase Carey: “In its 70-year history, Formula 1 Pioneered numerous technologies that have benefited society and contributed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The road cars benefit from the work of Formula 1. Few people know that current hybrid engines are the most efficient in the world.”

Formula 1 believes “that we can help develop the first climate-neutral hybrid combustion engine, which would significantly reduce global emissions.” Even now, no engine produces more power from less gasoline than Formula 1 drives. Combined with sustainable fuels and energy recovery systems, this creates a great opportunity to develop the “neutral” engine of the future.

Carbon dioxide emissions are to be reduced immediately through initial measures. As an additional goal, all Formula 2025 events from 1 should be designed sustainably: This concerns the use of recyclable or compostable material and the elimination of plastic waste.
