The last race in Imola was in 2006, when Michael Schumacher won. Afterwards, the narrow route with few overtaking opportunities was deemed too dangerous and no longer appeared in the racing calendar. After the Corona crisis, a return of the route near Bologna was necessary for organizational reasons. Bottas then fought a duel with Verstappen for second place. On lap 2, the Finn misjudged a corner, whereupon Verstappen overtook him. The left rear tire exploded on lap 43 and Bottas was back in second place.

After Verstappen's failure, the safety car had to come out and made things exciting again. But Hamilton didn't let Bottas get close. For Mercedes it is also the decision in the constructors' title. It is also a new Formula 1 record, as it is the 7th title in a row. Vettel unlucky Sebastian Vettel experienced a pitch-black day. Things looked good for the German in the Ferrari for a long time: he also went into the pits late, which helped him move up from 14th place to fourth place. Nothing stood in the way of his best placement of the season so far, but his team made a mistake during the pit stop and needed a full 4 seconds to change tires. Thanks to this mishap, Vettel fell back to 13th place and ended up in 12th place until the end.
