Hamilton takes pole position in Hungary - Vettel fourth

World champion Lewis Hamilton starts the Hungarian Grand Prix from first place on the grid. The Mercedes driver from England prevailed in the wet qualifying at the Hungaroring ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas and his Finnish compatriot Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari). Ferrari star Sebastian Vettel (Heppenheim) didn't get past fourth place.

“It's not all evening yet,” explained Vettel, referring to the race on Sunday (15.10:XNUMX p.m.): “I simply wasn't fast enough in these extreme conditions. Maybe the conditions will suit us better tomorrow.” It's all about a good start, emphasized Vettel, and then with a good strategy "something is possible" on the winding Hungaroring.

For Hamilton it was the 77th pole position of his Formula 1 career and his fifth of the season. “Was that good, or what?” Hamilton radioed to his pit box after turning the weekend so far on its head: “First and second places are great for the team. It was so hard out there. And it became more and more difficult because it rained more and more. We are now in a great position for the race.”

Last year Vettel won in Budapest from first place on the grid. This year too, a victory on the winding course would be immensely important for the 31-year-old: before the twelfth of 21 races of the season, Vettel is 17 points behind Hamilton.
