Historic Hamilton – The path to the 100th victory

100 wins – a statement of dominance. In the history of Formula 1, no driver has been able to break this sound barrier. Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher came closest to this magical number (91), with Sebastian Vettel already far behind in third place (3). To reiterate the significance of Hamilton's success - the Mercedes driver has more victories than F53 legends Alain Prost (1) and Ayrton Senna (51) combined.

Even though the following season was marked by the internal team dispute between Hamilton and Alonso, which ultimately resulted in the World Cup being lost, the Brit was predicted to have a great career - also by his later companion Niki Lauda. China 2008 – The template for the first World Cup title In 2008, Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Felipe Massa fought a World Cup duel that would go down in history. With his victory in the penultimate race in China, everything looked like a comfortable title win at Interlagos. After all, the Brit only had to finish fifth in the last race of the season.

Ultimately, the race turned out to be extremely dramatic; the onset of rain threw the entire field into disarray. In the end, it happened as it had to happen: Hamilton overtook Toyota driver Timo Glock in the last corner of the last lap of the season and secured the title-deciding point over Massa - the first world title for Hamilton. Thanks, among other things, to the victory in China. Hungary 2013 – signs of dominance Together with Kimi Raikkönen and Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton stood at the top of the podium at the Hungaroring. Even though Hamilton had nothing to do with the title fight this year, the victory was the start of an incredible success story. For the first time, the German anthem was played after the British anthem. A tradition that would be remembered by Formula 1 fans.

The first victory with Mercedes was also the only one that season. The following year, the first title with the German racing team followed - the Silver Arrows heralded their dominance. Abu Dhabi 2016 – Hamilton is also human Lewis Hamilton found out firsthand in 2016 that victory doesn't always bring joy. The Brit was in a heated title fight with teammate Nico Rosberg throughout the season. Second place was enough for the German in the last race of the season. In the final laps of the race, Hamilton was in the lead ahead of Rosberg and defied his team's orders.

Instead of simply securing his 53rd victory, Hamilton slowed down. This meant that Rosberg found himself exposed to attacks from Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. The quartet stayed close together until the checkered flag... Hamilton's tactics did not change the outcome of the world championship. Rosberg wins his first and only world title - probably the Brit's most painful victory. Silverstone 2020 – Victory on three tires The dominance of the Silver Arrows was unbroken - this was also shown by Hamilton's 87th victory. The then six-time world champion rolled to home victory on just three tires. For a long time everything looked like a confident victory for Hamilton, but on the last lap there was a shock: the leader's tire burst! His closest pursuer, Max Verstappen, was no longer within striking distance and the Brit escaped to the finish. One of the champion's most impressive performances, the will to win was still the same. Portugal and Türkiye 2020 – victories for the ages In 2020, two of Michael Schumacher's records fell that were destined to last forever. In Portugal, Hamilton celebrated his 92nd Grand Prix victory, surpassing the seven-time world champion. Two races later he also equaled Schumacher's fabulous record of seven world championship titles - the Mercedes driver himself spoke of the best race of his career after the Portuguese rain battle. Russia 2021 – A new dimension When you can no longer break records, you have to do it yourself and set new limits. In the highly dramatic race in Sochi, Hamilton was once again able to prove his class and hold his own in the rain that started shortly before the end. While McLaren driver Lando Norris slipped past his debut victory due to a lack of experience, the seven-time world champion secured his 100th victory.
