Will Mercedes drop the appeal?

Ultimately, a season like this deserves to end like this. If Hamilton were to be awarded his eighth world championship title away from the track, the violent reactions from fans could cause considerable damage to Mercedes' image. And this would not be in the interests of the group. Regardless of whether Lewis Hamilton and Co. were in the right or not - the result of the investigation would once again cause intense disputes regarding the racing. It would therefore be entirely possible that an appeal could be dispensed with.

Nevertheless, everyone involved will have to wait for the official statement from Mercedes. The constructors' world champion has until Thursday to submit the appeal - the day on which Verstappen is to be officially awarded his World Cup trophy.
