Media: Schumacher's exit from Haas is sealed

According to information from the newspaper on Monday, Nico Hülkenberg is about to return to the premier motorsport class and replace the 23-year-old at the US racing team. Assuming everything goes normally, Hülkenberg should sign his new working paper on Tuesday. The official announcement should follow in the following days. A source said BILD not. An inquiry to Haas initially went unanswered.

Schumacher's contract with the US team expires. Hülkenberg (35), who is currently a reserve driver at Aston Martin, has long been considered a hot candidate for the successor. “Expect the announcement sometime next week,” said Haas team boss Günther Steiner in São Paulo with a view to the season finale in Abu Dhabi. “But I won’t reveal the day because then everyone will be waiting for that day. But it will come next week.”

Haas has long since made its decision about Schumacher's future. “Yes, it’s true,” Steiner replied at the Grand Prix in Brazil when asked whether the racing team had already selected a teammate alongside the Dane Kevin Magnussen, who was set for 2023. “We’re just sorting out the details of how we’re going to do this and what we’re going to do.”

Schumacher admitted after his 13th place on Sunday in São Paulo and a difficult second year at Haas: “Sometimes it's your year and sometimes it's not. I think this year wasn’t for me.”
