Mick Schumacher: Touching words about father Michael

“I am happy to be the son of the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time. I'm happy that he is the best Formula 1 driver of all time and I admire him for that. And even if it can be a little difficult at times, it is what it is. It has good sides and it has bad sides,” said the 19-year-old son of the record world champion in the current magazine of the world motorsport association FIA. “Having the support of many people around the world can’t be a bad thing. I’m grateful for that.”

Mick Schumacher won the Formula 3 European Championship last season. This year he is moving up to Formula 2 and will continue to drive for the Prema racing team. The teenager was recently accepted into Ferrari's youth academy. Father Michael once won five of his seven Formula 1 titles in a Ferrari cockpit and is still considered an icon of the Scuderia in Italy today.

Mick continued that he always loved going to the go-kart track with his father. “It was a lot of fun sharing that with him and I remember him once asking if this was a hobby for me or if I wanted to do this as a professional. I told him straight out that I wanted to do this as a career. “I never wanted to do anything else,” said Mick Schumacher.

His father has been shielded from the public since a serious skiing accident on December 29, 2013 in Méribel, France. The now 50-year-old suffered a severe traumatic brain injury.
