Million dollar auction: Schumi-Ferrari is being auctioned

The auction house Sotheby's expects that the purchase price for the “Red Goddess” on Saturday at the season finale in Abu Dhabi will be between 5,5 and 7,5 million US dollars (approximately between 5 and 7 million euros). Formula 1 announced this on Tuesday.

The model up for auction is the original chassis with which Schumacher won his fifth of seven world championship titles in France in 2002. Back then, the German became world champion early on July 21st in the 11th of 17 races of the season, making him the “fastest” champion in history. Schumacher also drew level with the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio in terms of titles. In total, Schumacher took 2002 Grand Prix victories in 11.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Keep Fighting Foundation. The foundation supports projects in the areas of culture, education, science and health. Most recently, a Schumacher Ferrari F2001 achieved a world record for Formula 6,4 cars at an auction two years ago with a price of 1 million euros.

In addition to the F2002, another car driven by Schumacher is being auctioned: the Benetton B192, with which Schumacher competed in his first full season in the premier class in 1992.
