New name, new team: Racing Point Force India can start in Spa

The FIA, the world automobile association, gave its approval for this regulation in Spa on Thursday.

The racing team will therefore lose all bonuses and points from the season so far. However, the two regular drivers Sergio Perez (Mexico) and Esteban Ocon (France) can keep their points in the drivers' championship.

In the statistics, Racing Point Force India is listed as a completely new team. Since the name of the car cannot be changed during a current season and must be included in the team name, the racing team will be called Racing Point Force India until the end of the season. In 2019 Force India will disappear from the team name.

Force India debuted in Formula 2008 at the beginning of the 1 season as the successor to the Spyker team. In total, the racing team took part in 201 Grand Prix. Although the takeover of the previous Force India racing team by a consortium led by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll is still not legally binding, all teams voted to take part in Spa.

Although the insolvency administrator has agreed to the deal, which is said to be worth 130 million euros, the consortium has so far only acquired the team's assets. Vijay Mallya and Subrata Roy continue to hold the majority shares. Because of an arrest warrant against Mallya in his native India, some Indian banks are now refusing to give their consent to the sale of the shares.

Everything new in Monza At the next race on the first weekend in September in Monza, the team will most likely start with a different driver pairing. Lance Stroll, son of Lawrence Stroll, may take Ocon's place. He could switch to McLaren and take Stoffel Vandoorne's cockpit there. Pole Robert Kubica (previously Williams replacement driver) is being discussed as Stroll's successor at Williams.
