Red Bull dominates Monaco training - Vettel ahead of Hamilton

The Ferrari star didn't get past third place in free practice on the famous street circuit in the Principality on Thursday. On his best lap, Vettel was a whopping 0,572 seconds slower than the Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who set a course record in the Red Bull in 1:11,841 minutes.

The second Red Bull driver Max Verstappen also finished ahead of Vettel, with the Dutchman separated by 0,194 seconds from Ricciardo. Vettel's great World Cup rival Lewis Hamilton (England) was fourth in the Mercedes, around a tenth slower than the German. The trend at Mercedes continues to point upwards: last year the Silver Arrows had no chance against Ferrari in Monaco. Red Bull was already the second force back then.

Nico Hülkenberg from Emmerich achieved a good seventh place in the Renault, 1,206 seconds behind the leader. With the training performance, Red Bull, which is contesting its 250th Grand Prix in Monaco, underlined its role as favorite for the classic on Sunday (15.10:3,337 p.m./RTL). At 1 km, the shortest circuit on the Formula 14 calendar is extremely winding. In contrast to every other Grand Prix, the first two training sessions in Monaco will be completed on Thursday. Friday is traditionally a day of rest in the principality.

Before the sixth round of the World Championship, Hamilton leads the drivers' standings with a 17-point lead over Vettel. Ricciardo, fifth in the World Championship, is already 48 points behind Hamilton, with Verstappen right behind him 62.
