Rosberg-Watschn for Vettel: “You’ll never beat Lewis like that”

“It's become so one-sided since the summer break, it's unbelievable. It looked like Vettel was going to win the title, and now it's the other way around," Rosberg said on the Formula 1 podcast "Beyond The Grid" about Vettel's duel against Lewis Hamilton: "That's the result of mistakes. That way you never beat Lewis because Lewis doesn’t make mistakes.”

With three races still to go, Vettel is 70 points behind the British Mercedes driver Hamilton - and he has been waiting for further success since his victory in Spa at the end of August, partly due to many of his own mistakes. Completely different is Hamilton, who won four of the following five races and can win his fifth world title in Mexico this weekend.

“Vettel is sometimes too self-confident” “I find it a little difficult to understand all this because we are talking about a four-time world champion. Sometimes he wants too much in one moment and doesn’t think long-term enough,” said Rosberg. The key to success is “consistency” - and Vettel and his team “delivered exactly the opposite. In the last few weeks things have been wildly up and down for Ferrari and him.”

For Rosberg, who became world champion in 2016 and prevailed in the team's internal duel against Hamilton, Vettel also lacks insight. “He is sometimes a bit too self-confident and doesn't accept when someone else has done a better job,” he said: “But in a moment like that you have to step back and admit that the curve belongs to the other person, you have to tell yourself - Then I’ll just pack it a little later.”
