Schumacher friend: “It became more and more dramatic”

“We had a joint event three or four days beforehand,” Ebel told the Munich evening newspaper. “We then went out to eat privately on his initiative. We cracked jokes and had a drink. He then said that he was flying to Méribel the next day to go skiing, that his wife Corinna and the children were already there and that he was traveling behind. I told him that I had been there myself and that it was a great ski area. Everything was wonderful.”

Then came December 29, 2013 - and Michael Schumacher's life changed dramatically after a skiing accident. “I was sitting at home on my couch, watching TV,” says the Formula 1 reporter, describing how he experienced the drama. “Suddenly a scrolling text ran through: 'Serious accident involving Michael Schumacher.' I said to myself: That's nonsense, he's not driving a car or motorbike, he's on vacation. This can not be true. When the word ski accident was mentioned for the first time, I realized that it was probably true. I was still thinking about what had happened, but since it was said that he had flagged down the helicopter himself, I thought it wouldn't be that bad. But with every report it became more dramatic. It was an incredible rollercoaster of emotions.” No information on health status Ebel is also aware that the topic of Schumacher is still omnipresent today, almost five years after the accident. “Even today, hardly a day goes by when I am not asked if I know how Michael is doing. The interest in his fate remains unbroken.”

Schumacher suffered a serious head injury in that accident and has been undergoing medical rehabilitation ever since. There is no information about his health status. Kai Ebel also doesn't want to or isn't allowed to comment on it. Schumacher's family wants absolute silence.
