Schumacher: “My dad is my role model”

Formula 3 European champion Mick Schumacher (19) has “no problem with comparisons to my dad. Because my dad is the best, that's why he's my role model," says the son of record world champion Michael Schumacher in an RTL documentary that will be broadcast on Saturday (13 p.m.) before Formula 1 qualifying in Abu Dhabi. “Even other world champions compare themselves with my dad,” said Schumacher.

In the documentary, Schumacher Jr. also remembers his beginnings in motorsport when his father put him in a kart. In Kerpen they kept doing laps on the go-kart track, “even when it was closed,” said Schumacher. And at some point his father asked the question of all questions: “Do you want to do this professionally now?”

This season, thanks to an increase in performance in the second half of the season, Schumacher won his first major title with the European Championship triumph in Formula 3. It is likely that he will move up to Formula 2019 in 2.

RTL also accompanies Mick's cousin David Schumacher (17), son of ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher and "Rookie of the Year" in Formula 4, as well as Maximilian Günther in the documentary "Schumacher: The Next Generation".
