Sigi's tips: The Ferrari myth is in danger

General motorization only came to me relatively late, because my childhood on my grandfather's farm was still characterized by his stubbornness. These infernal machines won't come into my house. That was his credo. And so the ox “Maxe” got his feed every day and we brought in the hay with him in the tried and tested way. I personally went to the field with him several times. All alone. At that time the first Ferrari was just being built. The MC 57 walk-behind tractor, which was an immediate success. These tractors are now extremely popular with vintage car fans. Blessed is anyone who has a Ferrari in their yard. And most of them still work. My grandfather then decided to give up the farm. During the transition period until the demolition, which I still don't forgive him for, a car repair shop moved in. What a punchline to the story. Exhaust gases, of all things, now clouded the yard where manure used to spread an almost pleasant smell. And chickens no longer hopped around between the wrenches and the engine oil. And so the rural childhood was quietly driven away by the specter of modernity. A color that electrifies When my father bought the first car, I was already quite an adult. Eleven years old. It was a Ford Taunus. Gray, with steering wheel gearshift and a bench seat at the front that rivaled the armchair in the house. But a car. Welcome to the new world. The “Maxe” had been in ox heaven for a long time.

That's probably why I never became a car enthusiast because of my past. As they like to say, you have to have gasoline in your blood. And yet there is one vehicle that still captivates me to this day. Inevitably. At least that was the case until now. Ferrari. It's crazy. This red, this color alone gives you goosebumps. Recently I saw another such red racer in the parking lot at the “Köferer” in Neustift, my regular restaurant when I am in South Tyrol. He stood elegantly crouched down between white SUVs, as if he had been deliberately thrown there to say: Look, that's a car. I go there automatically. Look at it closely, risk a look inside, always from a reasonable distance of course. But not because of Corona, but out of respect, because such a device costs as much as the down payment for a condominium. A Ferrari. A myth. Still. A magnet of emotions At the moment, the representatives of the company working in Formula 1 are doing everything they can to ruin the reputation of this global brand. From tractors to sports cars. Some are already comparing the cars to submarines. Ferrari at slow speed. No longer visible. And if they do, then, as recently, either in a pile of tires or in the pits, because the brakes failed in Sebastian Vettel's speedster, of all things, which makes me wonder why Ferrari still needs brakes when they're constantly following behind anyway. The owners of this wonderful four-wheeled construction now have to put up with a serious loss of image of their cars. You could almost feel a little sorry for them. At least they have some consolation left. Your car continues to be a rarity, something completely sublime in the monotony that designers from all over the world flood us with, to the point of making a brand unrecognizable. A Ferrari remains a Ferrari after all, a magnet for emotions. But it's also the expectations that come into play. A Ferrari simply has to be the fastest and most beautiful car. At the moment the only trump card is the beauty, the grace, the wonderful line. In the long run that will not be enough.
