Verstappen caused a sensation at Silverstone

The 22-year-old Dutchman won the Grand Prix to mark the 70th anniversary of the premier motorsport class in Silverstone on Sunday. On his ninth Grand Prix success in the Red Bull, Verstappen relegated six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and his teammate Valtteri Bottas to second and third place in the second Silver Arrow.

The two Mercedes drivers started from the first two positions, but struggled with tire problems throughout the race. In contrast to Verstappen: He impressed with significantly better tire management, drove very courageously as always and therefore raced from 4th position to first place. Another wad for Vettel Nico Hülkenberg finished seventh in his first race for Racing Point and missed out on a podium finish in his 178th attempt. The chances of a top-three finish were extremely good after his third place in qualifying. The 3-year-old Emmerich native replaced Sergio Perez, who had a second positive corona test.

Sebastian Vettel experienced another disaster. The four-time world champion didn't even make it into the top ten in the Ferrari and only finished twelfth. During the race, the 33-year-old sharply criticized the Italian team for its tire strategy via pit radio.

Formula 1 continues next Sunday with the Spanish Grand Prix.
