Vettel & Aston Martin: The signs are increasing

Otmar Szafnauer, team boss of Racing Point, did not want to give his two current drivers Sergio Perez (Mexico) and Lance Stroll (Canada) a job guarantee for 2021 on Friday in Budapest. “We have no intention of breaking valid contracts,” said Szafnauer, but did not want to promise that both would drive for his team in 2021. Szafnauer succinctly described the rumors about an imminent signing of four-time world champion Vettel, who will leave Ferrari at the end of the year, as “part of the silly season”, the crazy phase of the season in which new speculation about driver changes arises almost every day. There is no question that Vettel is a “good guy, honest, straightforward and fast.” Vettel had confirmed “loose discussions” with those responsible at Racing Point on Thursday.

Szafnauer is rather calm about Renault's protest against the brake ventilation of the Racing Point cars. His team now has three weeks to clarify the matter with the FIA, the world automobile association. Renault had complained that the Racing Point's ventilation was a copy of the corresponding Mercedes parts from 2019 - which would be a violation of FIA regulations.
