“The goal is to become world champion with Ferrari,” said the 31-year-old in an interview with Spiegel. In the fourth race of the season at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, Vettel had to admit defeat to the Silver Arrow duo with Valtteri Bottas and world champion Lewis Hamilton.

“If we are on equal terms, we can beat them. We have already proven that at times,” said Vettel, who after his third place in Baku is already 35 points behind the leader Bottas and 34 behind Hamilton. He maintains a relationship of mutual respect with his long-time competitor Hamilton. “We are now at a level where everyone knows that I do my job well and am always trying to do it better. But the other one can do it really well too,” said Vettel.

Vettel praises teammate Leclerc “I recognize performance – we spend too much time on complaints and quarrels and little time on compliments anyway,” said Vettel, who also praised his teammate Charles Leclerc: “I think we are a good team. We are working hard to further develop the car together.”

The next race takes place on May 12th, then the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona is on the program.
