Wolff: “Contract talks with Hamilton in a few days”

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff explained this to the BBC. “You can’t talk about things like that on the flight back from your seventh world title. “That doesn’t do it justice,” the Austrian explained. “We’ll give ourselves a few days now and then we’ll talk.” Lewis Hamilton's contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the season. At the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul, the Englishman drew level with record champion Michael Schumacher with his new World Cup triumph. It is almost certain that the 35-year-old will continue to drive for the brand with the star. “We want Lewis in the car and he wants to sit in the Mercedes,” Wolff recently explained in an interview with ORF, “it won’t fail anymore.” Something has developed between him and Hamilton over the years. “It goes beyond business, it’s a friendship, it’s trust,” Wolff told the BBC. Wolff doesn't like contract talks with Hamilton either. Reason: “This one day of negotiations is the only time in which we do not have the same goals. The best deal is the one that both sides are happy with.” Wolff and Hamilton had agreed not to begin contract negotiations until the manufacturers' and drivers' world championships for Mercedes had been finalized. This has been the case since last Sunday.
