Formula 2: Schumacher misses the points in Barcelona

The rookie from the Prema team ended up in 15th place in the fifth race of the season in Barcelona on Saturday, with Nicholas Latifi (DAMS) securing victory. The Canadian thus extended his lead in the championship.

Schumacher started the race from ninth place, and the German's rear tire was damaged early in the race when he came into contact with the Japanese Nobuharu Matsushita (Carlin). Schumacher had to head for the garage before the pit stop window opened and continued the race from the back of the field.

The son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher then drove up to fourth place, but the mandatory pit stop threw him back again. In the final phase of the race, Schumacher damaged his front wing in a collision with Juan Manuel Correa (USA) from the Sauber junior team and had to pit again.

The sprint race will take place on Sunday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (11.30 a.m.). Schumacher's best result to date in Formula 1 is a fifth place at the last race weekend in Baku.
