This is what you need to know before the start of the World Cup

What is the starting position? As in previous years, MotoGP is the premier class and enjoys the greatest attention. The Moto2 and Moto3 World Championship races round off the racing weekends. And for the first time, electrically powered motorcycles are starting in MotoE. In MotoGP and Moto3 there were only minor modifications to the rules. A new supplier for the standard engines was found in Triumph for Moto2. The calendar again includes 19 events. The season traditionally starts in Qatar, with Valencia being the last stop in mid-November. Of particular interest to fans in South Tyrol are the World Championship races in Mugello (June 2nd), at the Red Bull Ring in Austria (August 11th) and in Misano (September 15th).

What can fans expect in MotoGP? World champion Marc Márquez (Honda) is once again the top favorite. But the defending champions are starting the new season weakened after shoulder surgery. Vice world champion Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) and Maverick Viñales (Yamaha) impressed in the winter tests. Old master Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) should not be underestimated even at 40 years old. Marquez has a new teammate in former world champion Jorge Lorenzo. On paper, Honda has the strongest driver pairing, but Lorenzo also starts weakened. The Spaniard suffered a broken scaphoid bone during training and had to cancel one of the two winter tests.

What is MotoE? For the first time, a championship for electrically powered motorcycles will be held as part of MotoGP. MotoE starts in five of the 19 races. Twelve teams with 17 male and one female drivers take part in the series. The first MotoE race in history will take place in Jerez/Spain at the beginning of May.

Where is the Motorcycle World Championship on TV? ServusTV has secured the broadcasting rights for Germany and is the successor to Eurosport. “We show the qualifying and the races of all classes. It will always be available live, in HD and free of charge,” emphasizes ServusTV expert Alex Hofmann. He made his debut in the premier class in 2002 and drove his last Grand Prix in 2007. With the former MotoGP pilot Stefan Bradl, ServusTV has another expert on board.
