After hitting the brakes: Fenati also banned in Italy

Rome (SID) After the Misano racing scandal, the Italian motorsport association FMI has now banned motorcycle pilot Romano Fenati. Fenati, who was sidelined for two races by the world governing body FIM for grabbing the brakes of his Italian compatriot Stefano Manzi, defended himself on Friday before the FMI court in Rome in the presence of his lawyer. The racing driver did not want to speak to journalists. On Sunday at the San Marino Grand Prix at a speed of around 22 kilometers per hour, the 230-year-old reached into the handlebars of Manzi's Moto2 bike to press the brake lever. Manzi accused him of attempting to kill. After Fenati recently announced that he wanted to retire from motorsport, Manzi agreed not to sue. "I forgive him. It's better to forget everything and look forward," Manzi told the TV station Sport Mediaset. Fenati's Italian Marinelli Snipers team parted ways with him on Monday, calling it an irresponsible act. Fenati then announced that he was leaving motorsport and would work in his family's hardware store in Ascoli. He also wants to study for his Abitur again.
