World Cup round at Sachsenring canceled

The race in Hohenstein-Ernstthal planned from June 19th to 21st will be canceled this year without replacement, organizer ADAC and World Cup marketer Dorna announced on Wednesday. “If you see the development of the pandemic, then you have to be a realist and come to the conclusion that such events are not possible at the moment,” said ADAC sports president Hermann Tomczyk Sports Information Service (SID): “Nobody can do anything about it. The protection of all participants, whether spectators, drivers or officials, must be the priority.” The ADAC and Dorna had examined an alternative date in September with ghost races, but rejected it. The only German World Cup race is scheduled to take place again next year. The contract then expires, but a new one has been negotiated for some time. “We are in good discussions,” said Tomczyk, about an agreement “for another five years from 2022.” Basically, there is “fair agreement; we have already talked about the conditions. The goal would have been to negotiate this to the end, although the commitment of the state of Saxony and the region will of course be particularly important.” The World Championships have stopped at the Sachsenring without interruption since 1998.
