“Motorcycling is a showcase sport”

Mr. Gamper, you have been training in Arco for two weeks. What's it like to be back on the slopes? “I am a passionate motocross rider. Of course it's great that we can train again. The training is very relaxed because not so many pilots are allowed on the track at the same time. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. Everyone follows the rules, that’s how it should be.” What are the new security measures? What has changed? “Something has already happened. The pilots now have to register before every training session. The Trent Committee takes on this organizational effort. In addition, we are only allowed on the track on a rotational basis, which is unusual but right.” How are these changes received by the other pilots? “Our members can currently only train in Trentino. I specifically told them that they had to follow the rules. It works perfectly. Motorcycle racing is currently also a showcase sport, as we were the first association to be able to actively train again.” To what extent has anything changed in the training sessions? “A lot has happened there too. Normally we had dry training two to three times a week. Many pilots went to the gym or did another sport, but that's not possible at the moment. We kept ourselves as fit as possible at home, but we missed training on the motorcycle. We have to make up for that now.” This year's Regions Trophy has already been canceled, what do you think of this decision? “I think it's a shame, but the decision is understandable. The longer you wait for a cancellation, the greater the damage to the organizers. This year is an exceptional year, but hopefully it will be possible to take part in a few races in late summer.” You have been President of the AMC Brixen since the beginning of the year. What are the plans for the future? “I had previously served on the committee for a few years. Our goal is to rebuild a club as rich in tradition as Brixen. We are very motivated and believe we can do it.”
