Rally: Tänak close to Germany's victory, Ogier falls far behind

St. Wendel (SID) Ott Tänak (Estonia) is on the verge of his second victory in a row at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. Before the final three special stages on Sunday, the Toyota driver is in the lead with a lead of 43,7 seconds over the Spaniard Dani Sordo (Hyundai). The Finn Jari-Matti Latvala follows in third place in the Toyota, 44,5 seconds behind Tänak. World champion Sebastien Ogier suffered a bitter setback in the World Cup fight. The dominator of the past five years suffered a puncture while lying in second place on the infamous “Panzerplatte” special stage and lost 1:44 minutes to the lead. After the last test on Saturday, Ogier is in seventh place, 1:51,2 minutes behind. "It's a big disappointment, I could cry at the moment. We had such a strong performance this weekend and we're not getting the reward for it," said Ogier. On the last part of the day, Ogier benefited from a slip by Irishman Craig Breen (Citroen), which meant that the 34-year-old gained another position. World championship leader Thierry Neuville (Hyundai), who is 21 points ahead of Ogier in the drivers' standings, could be a big beneficiary despite a difficult weekend for him. On Saturday evening, the Belgian was in fourth place (+52,5 seconds) and would thus extend his lead.
