Renault and Sauber present Formula 1 cars for 2018

Enstone (SID) Renault and Sauber presented their cars for the 1 Formula 2018 season on Tuesday. Nico Hülkenberg from Emmerich is aiming for his first podium finish in the premier class with the Renault RS 18. In contrast, the previous backbencher Sauber hopes to catch up with the broad midfield with the C37 and the support of the new title sponsor Alfa Romeo. In addition to the cockpit protection halo, which will become mandatory in 2018, the aggressive design and color scheme of both racing cars are striking. The RS 18 is bright yellow when viewed from the front and almost completely black when viewed from the side, the C37 is in the traditional Alfa colors of wine red and white. “We are in a good position, I am confident. Put me in the car,” said Hülkenberg. Renault's motorsport president Jerome Stoll said: "I am convinced that year three will bring us a further step towards our long-term goals, which are to win races and fight for world championships." This should succeed alongside Hülkenberg (30/137 Grand Prix participations) and the Spaniard Carlos Sainz junior (23). Renault, constructors' world champion in 2005 and 2006, returned to the premier class in 2016 with the aim of being a title candidate in the fifth year after the comeback. At Sauber, Formula 2 champion Charles Leclerc (Monaco) replaces Pascal Wehrlein from Worndorf, who is back in the DTM for Mercedes after two years in the premier class. The 20-year-old Leclerc is supported by Sauber's engine partner Ferrari and is considered a candidate for a regular cockpit at Scuderia in the medium term. The Swede Marcus Ericsson (27) is entering his fifth Formula 1 season alongside newcomer Leclerc. Six days before the start of the first Formula 1 winter tests at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona (February 26th to March 1st), five of the ten racing teams have already presented their cars. On Thursday, the world champion team Mercedes and their great rival Ferrari will present their new car. The new season begins on March 25th in Melbourne/Australia.
