24 Hours of Le Mans: Toyota celebrates 3rd victory in a row

On Sunday, the trio Sébastien Buemi (Switzerland), Brendon Hartley (New Zealand) and Kazuki Nakajima (Japan) prevailed in the TS050 Hybrid and celebrated the prestigious victory in the long-distance classic, which took place for the first time without spectators due to the corona pandemic.

Buemi and Nakajimi were already successful in 2018 and 2019. Hartley replaced Spaniard Fernando Alonso, who is currently preparing for his Formula 1 comeback next year.

The possible Toyota double success in France was surprisingly prevented by the Swiss private team Rebellion with Gustavo Menezes (USA), Norman Nato (France) and Bruno Senna from Brazil, which was five laps behind at the finish after 387 laps (5273,262 km). Women's team convinced A women's team was also there. 19-year-old Sophia Flörsch from Germany competed with Tatjana Calderon (Colombia) and Beitske Visser (Netherlands) for the French Richard Mille Racing Team. The women's trio sold well and narrowly missed a possible top 10 placement in 13th place. Flörsch was the best German starter.

Next year, so-called hypercars will be at Le Mans for the first time. Peugeot has just announced a comeback for 2022 as the third most successful manufacturer (six overall victories). The race on the Sarthe is considered one of the most important motorsport events in the world and was postponed from June to September due to the coronavirus pandemic. The first race was held in 1923.
