Formula 3 season start: Mick Schumacher feels “absolutely ready”

“I'm going into the season with a very good feeling. I prepared well in every area, had very good tests and feel absolutely ready,” said the son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher before the first of ten race weekends.

The 19-year-old holds back from making any declarations of war, but he was regularly one of the fastest in the test drives. “The goal is definitely to be among the front runners. Of course, as a driver you have the championship as your goal, of course you have to set the optimum as your goal,” he said: “But for me it’s all about achieving my best performance and always being at 100 percent. And I don’t want to sound big now, I want to drive!”

Schumacher will also compete for the Italian racing team Prema Theodore Racing in 2018 - so he knows the processes and can fully concentrate on the 30 races of the season. Last year, Schumacher's season as a rookie, he finished twelfth in the standings. His best result to date is third place, which he achieved in Monza in April 2017.

The last season that Formula 3 will complete in its current format also begins in Pau. From 2019, the new Formula 3 is scheduled to start as part of the Formula 1 supporting program and replace GP3 there. Following the example of the Motorcycle World Championship (MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3), Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 race together on one weekend.
