Formula 3: Schumacher misses out on winning the title early

Hockenheim (SID) Mick Schumacher (19) missed out on winning the title early in the Formula 3 European Championship. The son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher only finished twelfth in the season finale in the first race in Hockenheim and remained without any points. This benefited his championship rival Daniel Ticktum (Great Britain), who finished fifth and kept his chance of winning the title. However, with a lead of 39 points over Ticktum, Schumacher still has all the trump cards. The second race of the day follows on Saturday from 16.30:15 p.m. (n-tv), in which Schumacher starts from second place. Ticktum has to start the race from XNUMXth place. Schumacher went into the final race weekend with a 49-point lead. The signs were clear: if he finished before Ticktum, the title could no longer be taken away from him. But Schumacher's hopes of winning the championship early were dashed in the early stages of the race. After an intense duel with his Prema teammate Marcus Armstrong (New Zealand), both drivers had to go into the pits to have damage to their cars repaired. Because the safety car was on the track at the same time, Schumacher quickly caught up with the field, but his race to catch up no longer led him into the points. Chinese Zhou Guanyu secured victory ahead of Robert Schwartzman from Russia. The Estonian Juri Vips, 2017 ADAC Formula 4 champion, took third place.
