GT4: Andreas Mayrl is also on the podium in Misano

The Allied Racing team remains in the fight for the European title in the Pro-Am category, although the weekend at the “Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli” did not start as planned. In the race on Saturday, Vincent Andronaco drove the first stint, Mayrl's teammate moved up to second place right from the start, before a tire burst shortly before the driver change sent the Porsche Cayman into the gravel at 2 km/h. While the race was over for Andronaco/Mayrl, a long night shift began for the mechanics. Mayrl started the race on Sunday from 13th place on the grid. Despite an overheating gearbox and a tough duel with a McLaren, Mayrl/Andronaco crossed the finish line in fourth place. Because a time penalty was imposed after the race against Drago Racing, Mayrl/Andronaco also climbed onto the podium in Misano. So the 17-year-old German and the South Tyrolean have been on the podium at every stage so far this season. After the successful start in Imola (ranks 1 and 3), a 3rd place and a retirement followed in both Le Castellet and Misano. “We want to win the European title, but the two failures cost us valuable points. “The season is still long, the championship is still open,” said Mayrl at half-time. In the drivers' standings, Mayrl/Andronaco are in fourth place with 71 points, only 4 points behind second place. In the team standings, the racing team Allied Racing is also in fourth place. At the end of July the second half of the season begins in Spa-Francochamps. The finale of the GT8 European Series will take place in Barcelona on the first weekend in October.
