Mick Schumacher shot down by his teammate

The rookie from the Prema team was shot down by his Indonesian teammate Sean Gelael on the first lap and had to retire. The 20-year-old son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher remained without points for the fifth time in a row.

"There's not much to say about that, it was very unfortunate. Of course, nobody does something like that on purpose, especially not their own teammate," said Schumacher: "The first three corners were good, then the car was thrown into the air. Unfortunately it was too badly damaged. I would have liked to continue driving."

The 3 Formula 2018 European Champion initially got off to a good start from eighth place on the grid, but was then cleared after Gelael made a serious braking mistake and lost control of his car. Schumacher returned to the pit lane with a defective right rear tire and further damage, but he had to retire a short time later.

Doubly bitter: Due to his early exit, Schumacher, with starting position 17, also has a poor starting position for the sprint race on Sunday morning (11.25 a.m.). In Formula 2, the top eight of the main race start in reverse order (reverse grid). All other pilots start the race from the place where they were ranked in Saturday's race.

The victory went to the Dutchman Nyck de Vries (ART), who also took the overall lead with 121 points. Schumacher remains in 14th place in the championship with 15 points. Schumacher's best race result to date in Formula 1 is a fifth place in April in Baku.
