After a 2-year break: Zanonracing is back at the forefront

With his tried and tested Renault Clio S1600, Bernd is taking part in both the Int. Alpine-Adria Cup, as well as the Austrian Rally Challenge. Bernd already knows the Alpine-Adria Cup, after all, he won it confidently in 2018 in a Peugeot 208T16 and in 2019 in a Clio S1600. The first race in the tightly packed 2022 racing calendar was the Rally Vipavska dolina last weekend in Slovenia, especially the night-time show test in the center of the city of Ajdovscina in front of tens of thousands of spectators was a very special experience for both the teams and the spectators after a 2-year break . After initial difficulties with the very slippery asphalt, only 48th place was possible after the first special stage. Zanon and his co-driver Denis Piceno then went on the attack on the second day and were able to fight their way back to the front in the 2 special stages on Saturday; As of Saturday lunchtime they were again leading the rankings in their category. But as is often the case with rallies, a change in the weather reshuffled the cards. The temperatures fell from 19 to 3 degrees in a very short time, with heavy snowfall and strong gusts of wind. The snowfall was so heavy that three special stages had to be canceled due to significant safety concerns. But not only Bernd, many of his competitors also had the wrong set-up for these rapidly changing conditions, so that Bernd's mechanics had to adjust the settings on the car under the most adverse conditions. It was possible to maintain the extended lead and win both the class and the category at the end of the race. In the overall ranking it was enough for 18th place. Incidentally, Bernd in his Clio has been unbeaten for 11 races. After a break of 2 years for Bernd and his team, a very satisfactory result, which can also be attributed to the team's intensive preparations. Not only Bernd, but also the entire team had to find their rhythm again after a two-year break, a plan that apparently worked well, because without a well-functioning team no acceptable result is possible, especially not in Slovenia, where the races generally take place are known to be very demanding on crew and material. The next outing for Zanonracing is confirmed at the beginning of May at the Rally Piancavallo in Italy.
