After horror accident: Flörsch feels a “deep feeling of happiness”

Munich (SID) Racing driver Sophia Flörsch also mentally processed her horror accident at the Formula 3 world final in Macau. As she told Welt am Sonntag, the 18-year-old felt a “deep feeling of happiness.” She is very grateful "that I am sitting here three and a half weeks later, can do everything and am almost no longer in pain. These thoughts are stronger than the specific memory of the accident." But Flörsch remembers well the crash in which she took off at high speed after a collision and crashed through the perimeter fence. Even if reality and self-perception are clearly different: "I didn't even notice in the car that I had taken off. The difference between sliding and flying - it all happens so quickly." When Flörsch saw the video five days later, she was “simply shocked.” Although she suffered a fracture of her spine in the accident, which had to be repaired in an eleven-hour operation, Flörsch had hope in the car shortly after the crash. "My neck hurt quite a bit. And my shins. They hit the top of the cockpit. That gave me the certainty that I could still feel my legs," she said. The impression was confirmed after the operation. "I had to lie stretched out for days afterwards and wasn't allowed to move. But I was sure that everything would be okay again," said Flörsch. Next year she will compete in the Formula European Masters, the successor series to the Formula 3 European Championship. As in the previous season, she drives for Van Amersfoort Racing. According to her own statements, she wants to be in the car again “at the end of February, beginning of March.”
