Huge success for the Dolomiti Motoraid Challenge

This year the event was classified by the Italian motorcycle association FMI as the Italian championship of the national Motoraid championship. The “Dolomiti Motoraid Challenge - Cronomerenda” is a race that takes place on routes that are attractive to tourists. On a cloudy, cool day, 84 pilots (a new participant record, last year there were 80) took part in the “Dolomiti Motoraid Challenge - Cronomerenda”. The participants came from various regions of Italy. A pilot from Catania made it the furthest, but athletes from Veneto, Lombardy and Trentino also took part. The largest contingent was made up of local pilots. Compared to previous years, this year the event did not take place on the court square in Bozen, but at the shooting range in Moritzing, where both the start and the finish were. Even though the pilots stayed dry all day, they had to contend with the icy cold, especially on the Mendel Pass. Therefore, the meal break on the Mendel was just right. A total of four categories were evaluated, including vintage cars and modern motorcycles. This year's overall ranking was won by Deris Franzini (Modern Scooter) from the Nord Est Bikers. Franzini prevailed on his Piaggio Vespa Primavera 1 with 22 penalty points ahead of Milan's Maurizio Acquistapace (39) and his teammate Cristian Meneghelli (72). Mauro Vettore was crowned Motoraid Italian champion in the “Modern Motorcycles” category with 150 penalty points; Moreno Valeri (272) and Andrea Fedele (287) completed the podium. Among the vintage motorcycles, Paolo Mattioli was at the top, holding his own on his Moto Morini Tresette 175 ahead of Pierluigi Longhi and Fabio Della Vedova. Cristian Meneghelli won the classic scooter class. The pilots from Veneto won the region trophy, with Lombardy and South Tyrol taking second and third place respectively.
